CBP confirms closure of PedWest

Heads up, travelers! Southbound crossings at the Chapal Lagarita (PedWest) pedestrian crossing in San Ysidro, California,, will be temporarily closed starting December 9th, 2023, at 6:00 AM PST. This closure is due to increased migration encounters at the southwest border and the need to redirect CBP personnel.

What this means?

PedWest is a place that connects the hearts of San Diego and Tijuana. It’s the place where families reunite after months apart, where businesses thrive through cross-border exchange, and where cultures collide in a beautiful explosion of shared food, music, and traditions. And this is definitely not good news for them.

Relevant information

  • PedWest southbound pedestrian lanes will be closed from 6:00 AM PST on December 9, 2023, until further notice.
  • Northbound pedestrian operations at PedWest will continue during this period.
  • All southbound pedestrian traffic will be redirected to the San Ysidro and Otay Mesa crossings (be prepared for longer wait times and arrive early).
  • Monitor the CBP website and social media for updates.

Additional tip

We suggest you use San Ysidro Lagarita to cross and try CrossNow, a service that ensures a quick process (15 minutes or less). So you have a pleasant trip and don’t worry about traffic. Know more about Crossnow: here
